Append the URL of the Video LinkĀ
Follow the steps given below to share YouTube videos using the link:
- Launch the YouTube app and watch the video.
- Then, the “Copy Link” option appears on your phone’s app palette when you tap the Share button.
- Put the link to the app you would like to share.
Imagine, for example, you wish to share the video through WhatsApp. Drop the link on WhatsApp and then append the following formatting:
[?t=240], The number represents the time in seconds. You are sharing the YouTube video link at “4 minutes,” which is equal to 240 seconds (60×4).Any video you wish to share needs to be converted into seconds whenever you share it.
By giving your friends the URL directly after 4 minutes, you are telling them to watch the YouTube video straight away.
Change to the Desktop Site
Follow the first two steps that we shared in the previous method.
Next, Paste the copied link into any browser you have installed on your Android device and tap Go. The browser will begin playing the video as soon as it starts.
Then click the three horizontal dots in the upper right corner of your browser and choose “Desktop Site.”
This will take you to the desktop version of the site. You can now share a particular timestamp with your friends by using the direct option “Start at”.
Thus, point your friend directly to the point where you want them to jump.

How to Use a Shortcut to Add a Timestamp (iOS Only)?
Shortcuts make it difficult to get the timestamp from YouTube videos using JavaScript, but there are other, more primitive methods available.
I refer to shortcuts that require you to manually enter the time. It’s a little less convenient than the methods above, but it might be faster.

When you open Shortcuts, a preview of “YouTube Start at Time” should appear.
If not, tap on “Get Shortcut.” From there, you can view the shortcut’s actions.
If this is your first time using third-party shortcuts, you may need to enable untrusted shortcuts in Settings.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and tap on “Add Untrusted Shortcut.”
Locate the video using either the YouTube mobile app or mobile website – it doesn’t matter.
Make a mental note of the minutes and seconds and pause it at the time you want the timestamp.
Tap the “Share” button next to open a pop-up window. When you reach the Share sheet, swipe through the options and tap.
To see your shortcut for “YouTube Start at Time,” tap “More.”
Shortcuts prompt you for a minutes-and-second timestamp.
First, enter the minutes as asked. Start by entering the minutes. If only seconds are needed, type 1 and then press “Done.”
After entering the seconds, tap on “Done” again. The shortcut can be modified to include an hour prompt if you need hours, which can be converted to minutes or seconds.
Once again, the Share sheet will appear.
